The rising concern
In India, Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) contributes to 17.8% of total deaths. Deaths due to heart diseases have risen from 13 lakhs in 1990 to more than 28 lakhs today, out of which 200,000 thousand children are estimated to be born with CHD each year in India. These rising numbers are a reflection of inadequate heart health care in India either due to lack of awareness, healthcare facilities and or poor financial conditions.
